Wet Market

I just came back from the morning wet market, tagging along with my parents.
You might find me insane, waking up early in the morning just to buy fresh seafood, stocking up for CNY. We bought 3 different kinds of prawns for 3 different purposes.
Somehow during CNY season, i really enjoy the early morning or midnight wet markets.
Thinking of something new and trying to be creative each year with the CNY menus are fun too.

However, its sad to know that more and more people treat CNY as their extended break, the festive mood seems to be diminishing overtime. It sets me thinking, what are we now then? Are we still humans with emotions or just robots input with routines? Sometimes I wonder how the younger generation think. What is in their life? Well, i'm just happen to be outdated and old i guess.

Sometimes I wonder how long will wet markets last.
How many of us know the art of hagging? Frankly, i cannot force myself to do it either. Uncle:" I buy so many from you, that one cheaper la, you already earn liao, we are regulars leh. can la can la, cheaper ah."

How many of us know the art of choosing? With some experience, asking my mum every now and then on how to choose, i'm still not really good at it. Theories are always theories. Application needs practicing. Perhaps i dont have the chance to practice.

How many of us care about freshness? Perhaps everything we have here are frozen, even our government is promoting frozen food. I do consume them too. Sad to say, actually i dont know how to differentiate whats frozen and whats not. BUT! I do like to see the FRESH ones at the wet market. There is really a difference.

How many of us speaks dialect? I do but not good at it. Besides, my dialect is an uncommon one that we dont use it for wet marketing. Thats a minor point tho, the sellers do speak mandarin too. But i thought its kind of nice to hear them communicating in teochew, cantonese or hokkien. Heh, at least i do know how to listen to real basic conversations, sometimes its really funny.

How many of us can DRAG ourselves up early knowing that it is a weekend? Seriously, i cant too. Supermarkets are so convenient nowadays and they are well equipped with almost everything you need. So, why bother waking so early? Sometimes i think in that way too. Lazy bummers.

Anyway ...

How many of us cook anyway ?
Think about it.

So, i really wonder how long wet markets can last, especially when the prices at supermarket are also competitive.

OH OH OH ....
i forgot a point...
the young generation dont go doesnt mean they cant get others to go in place of them!

maybe next time the sellers will learn how to speak in filipino and bahasa indonesia ! =P and the sellers will employ someone to stay by the computer getting ready to deliver (just like how they deliver fast food)
Computer screen :" Hougang, 2 big sotongs, 1kg 9bucks glass prawn, pay by visa."

Laughs.
