Why the rush ?

Sometimes i really wonder why people run frm the control station all the way to the platform in order to catch a train during the morning peak. I thought the train rides were rather frequent? I've noticed its around 2mins interval. Does 2 mins really make a difference? Maybe they were really at risk of being late. (*the evil one in me is trying to convince u people out there that perhaps its good for you to set ur watch 5 mins faster than the actual time. Laughs)

But then again, why the rush?
In order to catch that train, all you need to do is perhaps, to leave the house say 5mins earlier. I bet, no one will do that.Prefer to rush. Strange isnt it? From my list of friends, the only person i can relate to is Ling. She plans her time so well that she is NEVER at risk of being late. On the other hand, dear Jin is always late.

Reason is, Ling calculated the "worst scenerio", while Jin calculated the "best scenerio", like what most Singaporeans do.

Huh? What scenerios? Trying to complicate things again? Yes, my brain is indeed capable of complicating simple things like "rushing for trains". Simple things make me ponder. No wonder i aged matured so much over the years.

Anyway, shant digress, lets provide real life example:

a) Ling travelling from Jin's house to City hall, ceteris paribus.

--Ling will calculate that she might need 10 mins of waiting time for bus 72. (Nowadays Ling promotes to seek iris.)But here we assume she didnt consult iris.
--Ling will plan that the journey from Jin's house to tampines interchange to be 10 mins.
--After which, Ling might take into consideration of the walking to MRT station plus waiting time for MRT, say 5 mins.
--Then , she calculated that frm Tampines to Cityhall is about 11 stops, so she'll need probably 30 mins.

Total time she will need is 55 mins. Around there. Maybe to be more flexible, Ling latest will have to leave hse 45 mins before meeting time, then she will be on time. And she makes sure that her has her butt moving when it is 45 mins before meeting time.

I've asked Ling personally sometime back. Her answer is really reasonable :"u will never know how will the traffic be." SO, she is the "worst scenario" kinda person.

Now lets consider case b

b) Jin travelling from Jin's house to cityhall, ceteris paribus.
--Jin would assume that her whole trip, including the waiting time and travelling time to interchange is 10-15 mins.
--Jin only take into consideration that the train will take roughly 20mins.
--Therefore, in order not to be late, Jin will aim to leave the hse 40 mins before meeting time. BUT! more often, she'll consider the best scenario which transportation and heaven is by her side. Threfore, she'll usually 莫东摸西 and leave the hse 30mins before meeting time. RISKing that there is a probability of 80% that she might be late.

I guess most people dont calculate like how ling did. Too accurate. Humans like to think positively. HAHAHA .Thats explains why singaporeans tend to be late in attending everything, besides work. Late for concerts, late for weddings, late for watever "seemed to be informal" appointments. I speak for myself. I will never be late for work and will try not to be late for school. BUT! I'm always late for other reasons.

Oh but a difference between Jin and the rushing crowd is, Jin doesnt bother to rush even if she knows she will definitely be late. She sees no point because she already knew it will happen. If she wants to avoid being late, she would have left earlier. Make sense? (*yes, finding excuses, yes.)

Rushing crowd in the morning peak period, is unbearable.
